Mark Finnern (left) runs the free, public, monthly Bay Area Future Salon at SAP Labs in Palo Alto, CA. For those of you who've heard about the Future Salon Network via the SL Future Salon, here are some Flickr pics from the Bay Area meetings to show you how real life Future Salons look :-).
You can also download free video of some previous Bay Area Future Salon sessions at archive.org, right now including:
•Who I Am Online, with Fen Labalme from Identity Commons, Jeff Hodges from Liberty Alliance, and Eric Sachs from Google
•McLuhan's Ramp, with Jaron Lanier (pictured below)
•Collective IQ: Facilitating Its Evolution, with Doug Engelbart
•Computers and Drugs Working Together: The Present and Future of Neural Biotechnologies, with Dr. Mike Chorost from SRI International and Dr. Eric Lynch from Sound Pharmaceuticals
By year's end we hope to have new Future Salons up and running in Phoenix, Austin, New York City, and Washington D.C. Mastering the coordination of Salon audio and visual media is also an important next step. Imagine these free, world-class events happening monthly in 30 cities, networking thousands of forward-thinking people, and generating a never-ending stream of easily accessible downloads on the world's most interesting subjects. Not too shabby! :-) Please be in touch if you're interested in starting a Salon in your home city or otherwise helping this public network reach its full potential (maybe by volunteering consultation, use of professional recording equipment, free meeting space...that sort of thing).
