Second Life Future Salon: Phillip Torrone Announces SL Hacks Book! + Pics from Future Salon

Last night we had what was, to me, one of the best future salons yet. Phillip Torrone, Associate Editor of MAKE magazine, welcomed us to MAKE:land in SL and showed off videos of MAKE-style tools and hacks ranging from 3D fabrication to cat-fooling robotic mice to Skype from payphones while rapping with the 30+ saloners for over an hour. I enjoyed it so much because it was one of those scenes where I felt totally surrounded by creative people from all over the world buzzing with ideas in a 3D online world where we can actually work together to make things real in ways never before possible. Yea, I know that's the whole point for many of us, but sometimes you feel it and see it more clearly and reaffirms how significant it all is.

Slhacks2_2 The big announcement of the evening is that O'Reilly and MAKE are working on a publication called SL Hacks! (pictured here with mock cover) I'm sure we'll hear more about this soon so we can start sending in our ideas contributions.
