Last night we had what was, to me, one of the best future salons yet. Phillip Torrone, Associate Editor of MAKE magazine, welcomed us to MAKE:land in SL and showed off videos of MAKE-style tools and hacks ranging from 3D fabrication to cat-fooling robotic mice to Skype from payphones while rapping with the 30+ saloners for over an hour. I enjoyed it so much because it was one of those scenes where I felt totally surrounded by creative people from all over the world buzzing with ideas in a 3D online world where we can actually work together to make things real in ways never before possible. Yea, I know that's the whole point for many of us, but sometimes you feel it and see it more clearly and reaffirms how significant it all is.
The big announcement of the evening is that O'Reilly and MAKE are working on a publication called SL Hacks! (pictured here with mock cover) I'm sure we'll hear more about this soon so we can start sending in our ideas contributions.
