Last Friday's Second Life Future Salon/Bay Area Future Salon mash-up brought Doug Engelbart into Second Life live via video and avatar. This afternoon Glitchy Gumshoe passed me a link to Wired's coverage of the event. That's cool. They only had one pic so I've posted more here.
Before that, anyone interested can find Doug's slides right here, and the video shold be in the future salon section of archive.org soon. Also check out Hyperwords. This was released yesterday as an extension for Firefox and Flock by Liquid-Information, a group that Doug is involved in. I found the link and write-up here. Hyperwords lets you interact with all text on the Web, not just hyperlinks as defined by the pagemaker. Great to see Doug inspiring and involved in these innovations.
Now on to the pics.
Bay Area Future Salon founder and host Mark Finnern prepares to lovingly smack the 100+ crowd at SAP Labs into shape with both prodigious futurosity and his powerful right hand:
Doug Engelbart takes to the video stage in Second Life, virtually virtually. As you can see, his avatar (created by lilith Pendragon) is just waking up :)
Future Salon attendees are some diverse and stylish folks...:
...diverse and stylish folks caught in an infinite loop!:
Doug appears to like the loop (evidenced, of course, by his gesture here and the upper left of his slide):
Zoomed out on the inworld audience of 30:
The Bay Area audience chats with Doug as they become the avatars' center of attention:
Pumped up on talk of paradigm shifts and unfinished revolutions, near the end of the night an avatar stagedives. Rock on:
Doug walks his avatar offstage after the presentation and chats with the avs:
One of approximately four people who made faces in the camera throughout the night :)
