[Edit 5/2: Click here to check out audio from the first SL Future Salon. I'll post write-ups and Q&A here later today, but I wanted to get these up ASAP.]

Randal Moss
Abstract: This presentation will look at the innovation of merging online communities with real world non-profit awareness and fund raising activities. I will cover the challenges, both organizational and technical, of merging real world events into digital environments. The foundation of my presentation is the experience of creating a virtual walk-a-thon replica of our American Cancer Society Relay For Life inside the MMOG Second life.
Bio: Randal Moss is the Project Specialist for the American Cancer Society’s Futuring and Innovation Center. The center specializes in rapid prototyping of programs, in-depth analysis of environmental scans, and future scenario development. He has been with the Society for three years in this position and focuses his energies on implementing Social Network Media into the society, and other National Voluntary Health Associations. His most recent effort was the NVHA conference. Randy earned his MTA from George Washington in 2001, and you can read his blog at http://www.comob.org.
Babbage Linden AKA Jim Purbrick
Abstract: [Title: "Researchers, Designers, Workers, Thinkers: Some People Who Suit Second Life"] There have been numerous occasions over the years I've spent researching, designing and thinking about virtual worlds when using Second Life as a sandbox would have been wonderful. Now I'm working for Linden Lab from 5268 miles away and I'm starting to think about how virtual worlds might help virtual workers and how Second Life might accelerate change in all of these areas in the future.
Bio: (cribbed from Terra Nova) One of the fortunate few who have been able, at this early stage, to acquire both academic and industry experience in analyzing and implementing virtual worlds, Jim hails from Nottingham UK. Primarily a network technologist but also a designer, his credits include experiments with time-linking in virtual worlds (recording and replaying events), persistence mechanisms (the PhD thesis), and real-world projects like the now-retired Dragon Empires Warhammer Online and, currently, Second Life.
Jerry Paffendorf
Abstract: (This is me.) I'll introduce the motivation for starting these meetings and present the vision for I what I hope they will become.
Bio: Jerry Paffendorf is a creative futurist and Community Director of the futures research nonprofit, Acceleration Studies Foundation—organizers of the annual Accelerating Change conference. Independently his focus is on massively multi-user digital worlds that interface with the real world, and place-based applications of search and social software. Since mid-2004, Jerry has presented research and ideas about these subjects at several major conferences. He has an MS degree in Studies of the Future from the University of Houston-Clear Lake and a bachelor degree in Fine Art from Montclair State University in New Jersey. Jerry is also the moderator of this blog and the Second Life Future Salon.
Bedazzle's China Town sim
Bedazzle is a serial project design team working in Second Life. Words don't do much justice to the gorgeous things they build, so better you go directly to their site and check out images of their Winter Castle, avatar photo gallery, Space Station, and more.
Their China Town sim had its origins as an FPS game (first-person shooter game, like Doom or Halo) built in Second Life (be sure to see this video). Bedazzle's Jimmy Thomson has been kind enough to let us host our first Salon here so we can showcase its high level of artistry.
