OK, this is going to be veeerrry good and interesting, for several big reasons:

First we have three awesome speakers in (from left to right above) Clark Aldrich, Julian Lombardi, and Betsy Book, on topics of education and simulation (see "Learning by Doing"), developing an open source 3D operating system (see the Croquet project), and entrepreneurship and business branding in digital worlds (paper coming soon), respectively. They'll all be presenting at Jade Lily's scenic SL Public Library (rightmost pic).

Secondly we'll be doing something very interesting with live audio and video from the Salon, namely streaming it online so people can watch the Future Salon without logging in to Second Life, and also syndicating (or "repeating") it to other locations in Second Life. This will greatly help to handle the overflow of attendees (as only 30 can fit into the SL Public Library, see below for more on that). I've held off on announcing these innovations as both are still being tested, but I believe they'll be in place by the 26th. Stay tuned here for updates or join the Yahoo! group.

Thirdly, we've started working with the too-cool-to-be-true audio download and podcast service IT Conversations to create an ongoing Future Salon audio series! It will include material from all the Future Salons (Second Life, Los Angeles, Palo Alto, San Diego, Las Vegas, and hopefully later this year New York, Austin, Phoenix, Seattle, and Washington D.C.) and if all goes well maybe we'll see the first shows appearing in June! w00t!

Fourthly, and on a different note, the RSVP system for the Salons is getting kind of crazy. Since anyone with a fast enough computer and internet connection can join SL for the Salons, and since there are already 30,000 subscribers to SL, the demand to come to the Salon is much larger than we can accommodate in one location (30 at this month's location, sometimes a little more) and I anticipate that it will grow truly tidal in the months ahead. The good news, however, is that everyone will be able to catch the Salon live either on the Web stream or at a repeater in SL. This is something we'll work out, and I would appreciate suggestions on how to create the most enjoyable and easily accessible variety of Salon experiences.

If you can make it on the 26th, please RSVP to me at jerrypaffendorf(at)accelerating(dot)org, and when the 30 spaces are full I'll keep track of your place and put you on a list for one of the repeaters. If all goes according to plan you'll be able to catch the Salon live even if you're not at the library (and, if you catch it at a repeater in SL, you'll be in the much less inhibited presence of others making it a Future Salon + Mystery Science Theater 3000 experience, something many of you will prefer!).
