I was recently thinking 'How many politicians have heard of Second Life, the Metaverse or Web 3.0? Wouldn't the world be a better place if someone like Bill Clinton signed up for an account?' If anyone knows Bill personally, please relay the following...
Dear Bill Clinton,
It has been said that you are pondering a run at the Secretary General position. You’ve done some commendable work on the humanitarian front recently, but, alas, you’re an American and that creates a perceived conflict of interest. So how do you prove that you’re above petty nationalism?
Go Metaversal! Champion the broad and open development and deployment of Web 3.0. Help “flatten the world” by advocating the diffusion of a powerful new interactive communication technology. Then use your networking and leadership skills to push through effective new global solutions made possible by this blooming Metaverse. The 3-D Web will allow explosive growth in the following domains, if you’re interested:
* Remote Labor: Web 3.0 will let more humans earn an income remotely by giving them virtual access to employment and sales markets. Immigration problems in places like the EU will be mitigated by access to global markets via the Metaverse.
* Capital Infusion: As the Metaverse allows a global human resources marketplace to flourish, geographically and economically isolated nations will benefit from broad micro-capital infusion.
* Distance Learning: As Web 3.0 allows more meaningful interpersonal communication between international persons who are actively collaborating and forming business structures, it will permit unprecedented diffusion of cultural values, economic behaviors, and technological structures. (This learning might take place in formalized learning centers, via new learning software, or simply through osmosis.)
* Untapped Human Capital: The Metaverse will provide the very young, the very old and the socially marginalized an outlet to do work, form new social bonds, and communicate more effectively. This adds human power to a global system in need of more brains to sort through proliferating content.
* Fossil Fuel Reliance: The tendency toward remote labor will decrease dependence on fossil fuel, and free up human capital.
* Human Rights: An open global Metaverse will bring a new level of transparency into social structures, thereby helping to avert genocide and bringing real-time attention to crisis situations.
* Coordinated Systemic Action: As humans explore the decentralized organizational structures made possible by Web 3.0 they will arrive at complex new hyper-responsive solutions to old problems. By changing its organizational structure to take advantage of the Metaverse, the UN would increase its ability to raise funds, make decisions, and execute relief efforts.
Of course, a pro-Metaversal platform could very well backfire by disproportionately destabilizing larger more advanced economies like the U.S., providing terrorists with effective new communication tools, and stirring up new conflicts in underdeveloped cultures resistant to technological change. By backing the free and open development of the Metaverse you might come across as the Prometheus who created a global forest fire. But I tend to believe that an explosion of social behavioral possibilities will be net positive.
Sincerely,
-Alvis Brigis
I think you are on to something Mr. Brigis. I was snooping around for Bill Clinton's latest talks within this here globe we live. It turns out he just keynoted at the China Internet Summit. There ARE some very conflicting views as far as the the UN's control over the internet.
"Putting the UN in charge of one of the world’s most important technological wonders and economic engines is out of the question," says Senator Norm Coleman. "This proposal would leave the United States with no more say over the future of the Internet than Cuba or China–countries that have little or no commitment to the free flow of information."
Check out Alibaba.com. A company that operates the world’s largest online marketplaces for both international and domestic China trade.
Something to think about.

Senor Brigis,
I agree that you are on to something. As a former illegal immigrant who swam the Rio Grande to reach the land of opportunity, I am encouraged by the thought of economic opportunity in my home country. Swimming the Rio Grande wasn't easy, but now I own two International House of Pancakes restaurants in Fresno. Maybe my former countrymen can have that same opportunity.

Mr. Marcon,
Perhaps we can set up a meeting to discuss those opportunities, say at one of your IHOP locations. Hell, why don't we just recreate IHOP in SL?
