Doug Engelbart Second Life Future Salon on Friday, January 20th

After an earlier reschedule, computing legend Doug Engelbart is coming to Second Life on Friday January, 20th at 7:30 PM PST.

I recommend this short piece by Ross Mayfield to bring you up to speed on Doug and his "unfinished revolution." We'll be streaming him inworld live via video from the Bay Area Future Salon and welcoming him for at least a brief appearance in avatar (pic below, av by lilith Pendragon). Second Life will be projected onto the wall of the room Doug's physically in and we'll try and merge the IRC channels as well so people in Palo Alto and people in Second Life can communicate with each other.

The topic of Doug's Presentation is "Raising Collective IQ" and we'll meet on Democracy Island. Check out the original announcement for more on Doug and the future salon. Bay Area Future Salon founder Mark Finnern mentions:

"One thing came out of my November Future Salon announcement that Firefox founder Blake Ross and Doug are connected now. Doug has a couple of ideas for some Firefox improvements and Blake is interested to hear his thoughts. May be they will have talked already until Friday the 20th of January. Wouldn't that be amazing if they would announce something at the Future Salon?"

Hmm, an environment where new ideas for Firefox will be seriously considered, eh? People in Second Life have some of those. Might be some neat cross-pollination here.

That is such a great avatar for Doug. I have worked with and known Doug for 30-something years...will be there in SL or actually will join Doug (as he asked me to physically be there).
